Sparrow Coffee Faces High-Stakes April Deadline in Downtown Clarendon Hills
Sparrow Coffee is currently in a race against time to complete its ambitious renovation project at 100 Park Ave. in downtown Clarendon Hills. Under a subsidy agreement with the Village Board, which includes a $622,000 grant, owner Chris Chacko must finish the project by April 30, 2026. The project involves the complex task of merging three separate units that were historically joined in a "haphazard" manner, presenting significant construction challenges.
The path to opening has not been smooth; the project was originally slated for completion last October and was recently hit with a temporary stop-work order due to safety and maintenance concerns. While those issues have been resolved, the looming deadline is critical for the developer to retain the full village subsidy. Chacko has emphasized that his team is doing everything possible to meet the "fluid" construction timeline, as the shop is viewed as a key anchor for the ongoing revitalization of the Clarendon Hills downtown district.
Warrenville Firefighters Rescue Resident from Early Morning House Blaze
Early Saturday morning, April 4, 2026, the Warrenville Fire Protection District responded to a critical structure fire in the 30W000 block of Maplewood Drive. The call came in just after 1:15 a.m. from the sole occupant of the single-story home. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy smoke billowing from the front of the wood-framed residence. Firefighters quickly entered the home with a hose line, located the resident, and safely evacuated them from the burning structure.
The resident was immediately treated by paramedics at the scene for injuries, though their current condition has not yet been released to the public. No other occupants were found in the home, and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within 10 minutes of their arrival. Thanks to their rapid response, officials estimate that approximately $100,000 worth of property was salvaged. While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the Fire Protection District issued a public reminder regarding the importance of maintaining a clutter-free home to prevent fire hazards and ensure clear emergency exit paths.
