Naperville City Council's Energy Options Exploration

Following a recent vote to pause contract negotiations with the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency (IMEA), the Naperville City Council has committed to a "deep dive" into the city's future energy options. The council plans to host a series of strategic workshops later this year to establish clear goals and benchmarks for energy procurement, focusing on factors like affordability, carbon emissions, and long-term reliability.

Mayor Scott Wehrli emphasized the need for a clear roadmap to avoid "drifting" through the process, as the city still has nine years remaining on its current IMEA contract. Several council members expressed a strong desire to explore non-IMEA alternatives and requested that city staff provide a detailed timeline of "drop-dead dates" for decision-making. These forthcoming reports and workshops are intended to move beyond a single-provider focus and provide the community with a transparent evaluation of all available energy providers and transmission risks.

West Chicago Welcomes New City Administrator

West Chicago has appointed Viviana Ramirez as its new city administrator, ending a monthslong search following a period of leadership transition. Ramirez, an attorney and former chief community services officer for Aurora, was unanimously approved by the City Council and will begin her new role on April 6 with an annual salary of $207,000.

Selected from a pool of 110 candidates, Ramirez brings a background in law and municipal service, having previously served as a family law attorney and a chief in the Kane County state’s attorney’s office. Mayor Daniel Bovey cited her ability to grasp complex issues and her experience as a licensed mediator as key assets for the city’s upcoming infrastructure projects and downtown revitalization. Her hiring stabilizes the city’s top administrative post after the departure of former administrator Michael Guttman last year and the interim tenure of Tia Messino.

Hinsdale Unveils Design for Park Pavilion

Hinsdale has unveiled conceptual designs for a new pavilion in downtown's Burlington Park, featuring a classic aesthetic intended to match the historic Memorial Building. The project, estimated at $250,000 to $300,000, is being funded entirely through private donations from local benefactors—including Hinsdale Hospital, the Chamber of Commerce, and Hinsdale Bank & Trust and ensuring no cost to taxpayers. Officials are aiming for a June 1 completion date to have the space ready for the nation’s 250th birthday celebrations on July 4th.
