⛈️ Spring Thunderstorms & Hail Rip Through the Region

While the majority of DuPage County was spared the most catastrophic "stovepipe" tornadoes that touched down in Kankakee and Northwest Indiana, the county faced a fierce night of high-velocity winds and significant hail. The storm cell barreled through the western suburbs shortly after 6:30 p.m., quickly transitioning from a standard downpour into a severe event characterized by golf ball-sized hail in Bolingbrook and ping-pong ball-sized hail in neighboring Romeoville. In Darien and Downers Grove, intense precipitation led to rapid accumulations of 2–3 inches, triggering a Flood Watch that remains in effect until 3:00 a.m. Wednesday.

The atmospheric instability created a "perfect storm" for suburban damage, with wind gusts peaking near 70 mph. These straight-line winds, while not tornadic, were powerful enough to down power lines and tree limbs across the southern tier of the county. ComEd has staged emergency crews throughout DuPage to address localized outages, prioritizing critical infrastructure like police and fire stations. Although the most dangerous rotation stayed south of I-80, the combination of record-setting hail sizes in the region and the constant threat of flash flooding made this one of the most significant weather events to hit the county in several years.

A New Chapter for Rosie’s Home Cooking

Local business owners Lynn Lowder and Dale Eisenberg are set to officially celebrate a major milestone for their culinary venture tomorrow. The duo will host a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new location of Rosie’s Home Cooking in Naperville on Wednesday, March 11, at 4:30 PM. While the restaurant has been welcoming diners since early March, this event marks the official "grand opening" for the owners and the community.

Rosie’s has quickly earned a reputation as a local staple, known for its focus on hearty comfort food and a welcoming atmosphere. The expansion to this new location reflects the resilience and growth of Naperville’s independent dining scene. Neighbors and fans are invited to join the celebration tomorrow afternoon to support a local business that has become a true neighborhood favorite.

Habitat Heroes: Project Churchill Restoration

Environmental volunteers will gather tomorrow for "Project Churchill," a key part of the county's broader 2026 habitat restoration mission. Taking place on Wednesday, March 11, this initiative brings together "Habitat Heroes" to perform critical conservation work in local natural spaces. Participants will spend the morning engaged in activities such as clearing invasive species and preparing the landscape for native plantings to ensure the long-term health of our local ecosystems.

The Project Churchill event is one of several restoration efforts planned for this month, highlighting the community's commitment to preserving DuPage’s unique biodiversity. By focusing on these hands-on projects, volunteers help maintain the county’s preserves as vibrant habitats for wildlife and scenic escapes for residents. For those looking to make a "green" impact, tomorrow's session is a vital step in the 2026 conservation calendar.
