95th Street Bridge: The Concrete Milestone

In South Naperville, the massive reconstruction of the 95th Street Bridge over the West Branch of the DuPage River has reached a critical phase. Engineering crews completed a major structural concrete pour for the new bridge deck late Friday. This $8 million project is designed to eliminate the "bottleneck" that has plagued commuters for years, widening the crossing to include separated pedestrian paths that connect the nearby residential neighborhoods to the forest preserve trails. While 95th Street remains down to one lane in each direction, the project is officially 60% complete and on track for a late-autumn ribbon-cutting.

Election Evolution: 750 New "E-Pollbooks"

Following the conclusion of recent administrative probes, the DuPage County Clerk’s Office is moving forward with a major tech upgrade ahead of the 2026 primary cycle. The county has officially begun the rollout of 750 new electronic pollbooks. These "E-Pollbooks" are designed to replace aging hardware and speed up the check-in process at all 263 polling places. The new systems feature improved encryption and real-time data syncing, which officials say will significantly reduce wait times and improve the accuracy of voter tallies across the suburbs.

Nature Watch: The Danada Heronry is Full

For those out on the trails this morning, the Danada Forest Preserve in Wheaton is currently hosting its busiest residents: the Great Blue Herons. April marks the peak of the nesting season, and the island rookery is currently home to over 30 active nests. Conservationists have noted a healthy return rate this year, citing the improved water quality in the nearby marshes. It’s a prime time for birdwatchers at the Rice Lake overlook, as the lack of full leaf cover makes it easier to spot the massive birds tending to their eggs.

🐞 Local Fun Fact

During the Cold War, DuPage County was secretly one of the most heavily defended spots in America. To protect Chicago from potential Soviet bombers, the U.S. Army built a ring of Nike Missile sites across the suburbs. One of the most prominent was Site C-41, located right in the woods of what is now Blackwell Forest Preserve near Warrenville.
