COD Horticulture Students Secure Top Honors at 50th Annual National Collegiate Landscape Competition

The College of DuPage (COD) Horticulture team achieved significant success at the 50th annual National Collegiate Landscape Competition (NCLC), finishing third among community colleges and 11th overall out of 54 competing institutions. Held recently in East Lansing, Michigan, the event featured 27 COD students competing against more than 700 participants from across the country. The team showcased their expertise in 30 different categories, including landscape design, plant identification, and hardscape installation, proving their competitive edge against both two-year and four-year universities.

Individually, several COD students earned top-five finishes, highlighted by Connor Lejman’s third-place ranking in the prestigious "Superstar" category, which recognizes the highest-performing overall competitors. Other notable victories included first-place wins for Abigail Benedict in Maintenance Cost Estimating, and the duo of Christian Gonzalez and Juan Serna in Hardscape Installation. Beyond the competitions, students utilized the event to engage in professional networking, attend industry workshops, and participate in a major career fair, further strengthening the connection between their academic training and the professional landscape industry.

MLB Alumni to Host Free Youth Baseball Clinic in Addison this May

The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) will be bringing its "Legends for Youth" clinic series to Addison on Saturday, May 2, 2026. The event is scheduled to take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Addison Trail High School, located at 213 N. Lombard Road. This free clinic is open to local youth and offers a unique opportunity to learn the fundamentals of baseball directly from former Major League players.

During the three-hour session, the former pros will lead various stations focused on hitting, fielding, and pitching, while also emphasizing important life skills such as teamwork and sportsmanship. The program is part of a global charitable initiative that hosts over 180 free events annually to promote the game and provide positive role models for young athletes. Families interested in participating are encouraged to register in advance through the official MLBPAA website to secure a spot for this professional-grade training experience.

Warrenville Partners with Denver Capital for Old Town Revitalization

Warrenville is moving forward with a transformative "catalyst" project at the northeast corner of Batavia and Warrenville Roads, a site previously occupied by a shuttered gas station.
The city has selected Denver Capital as the preferred developer for a three-story, mixed-use building designed to serve as a cornerstone for the Old Town district.
The proposed development will feature ground-floor commercial space intended for retail and restaurants—complete with outdoor dining and gathering areas—and residential apartments on the upper floors.

This project is the culmination of a multi-year effort by city officials, who purchased the "eyesore" property in 2020 to lead its environmental remediation and site preparation. To facilitate the development, the city has agreed to convey the 1.39-acre developable portion of the site to Denver Capital for $10, provided the developer meets specific project milestones and adheres to "Warrenville By Design" standards. Mayor Andy Johnson emphasized that the goal is to create a traditional "Main Street" feel that will inspire further investment and breathe new life into the city’s downtown core.
